Cai Bei originated out of ancient China, and several references to massage techniques can be found as early as 200 B.C. Today the practice has spread throughout Asia including places like Hong Kong and Thailand where many westerners may have experienced this form of massage. The techniques involves slow pressing motions on muscles or muscles groups to allow the tissue and nerves to reconnect to the lymphatic system simultaneously. In many cases where when people have deep muscle tension, their nerves and muscle tissue are too tautly entangled or jangled which leads to muscle pain and soreness.
In traditional therapeutic massage the muscles or muscle groups when too tight are stimulated in conjunction with acupressure points using directional movements; either trenching , cross hatching or pressing and running motions.
